Extended Reality for Neurological Rehabilitation
Extended Reality for Neurological Rehabilitation
The project will design, create, and test a cutting-edge virtual reality simulation environment tailored to support rehabilitation in hospital settings. Its goal is to provide a versatile tool available across all existing VR platforms, offering immersive or semi-immersive experiences with various modes of interaction. It will enhance patient involvement, enable remote accessibility, and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of disease progression.

WHAT MAKESXRehab'S SOLUTION UNIQUE?
The XRehab project offers a groundbreaking virtual reality (VR) platform that is versatile, adaptable, and accessible across all existing VR systems, providing both immersive and semi-immersive experiences tailored to individual psycho-cognitive and motor skills. Unlike traditional rehabilitation systems, XRehab simplifies the creation of personalized VR environments, even for non-expert developers, and is designed with future home-based use in mind. By fostering collaboration between healthcare professionals and technical experts, it enables personalised treatment, remote accessibility, and enhanced patient engagement, ultimately addressing the social and economic burdens associated with these diseases.

Celebrating the results of our first Open Call
The CORTEX2 Support Programme has provided us with access to a network of experts in VR technology, healthcare, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, CORTEX2 has fostered connections with like-minded innovators and professionals, facilitating knowledge exchange and potential partnerships that align with our project’s objectives. Finally, the programme has offered us a space to present our ideas, receive valuable feedback, and validate our project’s direction.
The CORTEX2 Support Programme provided an essential framework for accelerating the technical and clinical advancement of the XRehab platform. One of the most valuable aspects of the programme was the collaborative environment it fostered, allowing for direct engagement with technical experts and other digital VR innovators. This collaborative setting enabled the XRehab team to refine its approach and align technical developments with clinical priorities effectively. A key benefit was the opportunity to integrate selected CORTEX2 services — such as videoconferencing — which are highly relevant for the platform’s future exploitation in remote rehabilitation and telemedicine contexts.
